Attention wine lovers!

Franconian wines are a delight and the region around Rothenburg ob der Tauber is diverse. Why not simply combine nature and wine? The Romantic Road is one of the insider tips for wine fans. Along the Lachenweg & Hasennestle hiking trail in Tauberzell, Franconian half-timbered houses, lovingly landscaped farm gardens, the flowing Tauber River and numerous vineyards await you. Pleasure stations along the wine hiking trails are always a good reason to take a break. On a wine hike in Ansbach, taste the fruits of the breathtaking landscape – the wine and its regional food companions.

Route:

The starting point of the wine hike around Rothenburg ob der Tauber is the small village called Tauberscheckenbach, the municipality of Adelshofen, in the district of Ansbach. On an ascending forest path it goes up to the upper vineyard path. Once there, you get a beautiful view over the vineyards into the valley, up to the spires of St. Jacob’s Church in Weihenzell. Interested wine lovers can get to know different grape varieties on the educational wine trail laid out there by the winegrowers’ association.
There is also a place of worship with a shell limestone altar where church services, devotions and wedding ceremonies can take place.

The tour often ends at the shepherd’s barn, a former sheep barn that was converted into a wine tavern as part of a village renovation. Next to the shepherd’s barn is a sculpture made of shell limestone, the Russian winegrower, which is meant to refer to the partnership with Suzdal.

Also worth seeing in Tauberzell is the Hautschenmühle with its famous half-timbered gable.
